Wines from Beaumont Wine Estate

Newton Wines picture of the Beaumont Wine Estate

The Beaumont Winery is a family run vineyard situated in the quaint village of Bot River in the Walker Bay area of the south west Cape of South Africa. We always love visiting the Beaumont family on their delightful wine farm staying in an old converted cowshed, swimming in the picturesque dam and enjoying the walking trails and wild flowers of the Estate, as well as tasting some fantastic wines.

Sebastian Beaumont, the Viticulturist, specialises in old vine Chenin Blanc, Mourvedre, Pinotage and even some Tinta Barrocca. Sebastian is joined in the cellar by Marelise Jansen van Rensberg as the winemakers at one of the best wine estates in South Africa.

Beaumont Chenin Blanc 2016

Newton Wines picture of Beaumont Chenin Blanc

Picked early to preserve freshness, which also results in lower alcohol. A very slow and cool fermentation separately with different yeast strains for more complexity and then blended after fermentation. After maturation on the lees for 6 months it was fined, filtered and bottled. Very punchy aromatics filled with loads of tropical fruit, citrus and fennel. Fruit driven palate with a sweet sour tang and great balance.

Grapes: Chenin Blanc     Alcohol: 13.5%

Beaumont Hope Marguerite Chenin Blanc 2015/16

Newton Wines - Beaumont Hope Marguerite

Only fruit selected from Beaumont’s oldest Chenin vineyards is used for this wine. This is a great food wine that promises ageing ability. The wine has a fresh green glint, with dried apricot, green melon and a delicate cinnamon spice on the nose. It displays hints of ripe green apple, dried apricot and almond on mid-palate. Well-integrated oak with limey freshness and a lingering rich finish.
This wine consistently wins awards, with Platters awarding 5 stars to the most recently tasted 2013 vintage.

Grapes: Chenin Blanc     Alcohol: 14%

Beaumont Constable House 2014

The Constable House blend is now under the Beaumont name but still consists of the two varietals that work exceptionally well together namely Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is named after the vineyard in front of the old Constables House on the farm. The ratio in the 2014 vintage is 51% Shiraz and 49% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Grapes: Shiraz / Cabernet Sauvignon     Alcohol: 14.5%

Beaumont Pinotage 2013

Newton Wines - Beaumont Pinotage

The Beaumont Pinotage has been beautifully crafted with 24 months in 25% American and 75% French oak. 35% new oak was selected for the final wine.
This is the perfect example of elegance and finesse which can be found in Pinotage. Red berries, plums and cherries on the nose, followed by a palate of excellent balance, structure and appealing sweet berry ripeness. As the wine ages autumn flavours become more apparent. It will keep for up to 10 years

Grapes: Pinotage     Alcohol: 14%

Beaumont Syrah 2014

A blend of Shiraz and Mourvèdre with 25% of the wine aged in new barrels before blending.
The Shiraz provides delicious rich red and black berry fruit with spice both on the nose and palate while the Mourvèdre provides fine grainy tannins, structure and depth of flavour that fill the mouth and gives the wine great length and intensity. Sebastian and Marelise believe this to be their best vintage to date – I agree!
Limited production of just 3000 bottles.

Grapes: 61% Shiraz, 39% Mourvèdre     Alcohol: 14%

Beaumont Mourvèdre 2012

Newton Wines - Beaumont Mourvèdre

A stunning full-bodied red. A combination of rich red berries and dense inky black berry fruit, with under tones of liquorice and leather. Delicate spices including thyme, clove, cinnamon and black pepper with a characteristic core of tannin running through, creating togetherness and serious length.
A tiny production of this unique single varietal, only 3 barrels annually. A must try for any serious wine freaks!

Grapes: 100% Mourvèdre     Alcohol: 14.5%

Beaumont Ariane 2015

Newton Wines - Beaumont Ariane 2015

A classic “Bordeaux” blend of 46% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, with a splash of Malbec and Petit Verdot. The 2010 has a rich deep colour with herbs, blackcurrant leaf, fruit and chocolate aromas gives way to a palate that is rich in berry fruit and spice, yet kept in balance by soft ripe tannins and judicious use of oak. This is drinking wonderfully now but as with all Beaumont reds can be left to cellar for anything up to 12 years.

Grapes: 46% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot     Alcohol: 14%

Beaumont Vitruvian 2009

Newton Wines - Beaumont Vitruvian 2009

Beaumont’s flagship red blend gets its name from the farm’s 200yr old water mill which has been recently restored to working order. This is a wine that Sebastian describes as an “unapologetically Beaumont blend” based on Mourvèdre, Pinotage, Shiraz and Cabernet Franc.
This is tremendous for the price and in very short supply.

Grapes: Mourvèdre, Pinotage, Shiraz and Cabernet Franc     Alcohol: 14%

Goutes d’Or 2015

Beaumont Goute d'Or - Newton Wines

This is Beaumont’s first noble late harvest Chenin Blanc since 1998 (previously Sauvignon/Semillon) and one that I rate as one of the best I’ve tasted. Reminiscent of baked apple pie on the nose with a caramel sweetness. The palate has flavours of toffee apple, pastry with hints of orange blossom, sweet spice and honey. Vibrant and crisp with a refreshing acidity that cuts through on the palate. Excellent lingering finish.
A desert wine to enjoy now or will keep for up to 20 years.

Grapes: 100% Chenin Blanc     Alcohol: 12.3%

Beaumont Starboard "Dessert Wine" NV

This is a unique version of Beaumont’s fortified port style wines. A barrel of each of the ‘05,’07,’08,’09 Ports. Aged together for the past 4 years has allowed them to melt into each other to produce a deliciously smooth silky textured wine. Now called dessert wine (in South Africa) as there is no official name for a blended “port”. Unfined and unfiltered as per the ‘traditional’ style, with minimal sulphur use. Platters 5 Stars and dessert wine of the year.
Arriving April 2018 and get it while you can!

Grapes: Tinta Barocca, Pinotage     Alcohol: 18.5%
