Newton Wines is pleased to enjoy good links with its existing vineyards, several of which we have been had the pleasure of visiting ourselves. We list a few more of the new and exciting wines which caught our attention below. As we grow and develop we look forward to seeking individual and interesting wines from lesser know regions, such as Tasmania and Uruguay, to keep our offerings fresh and diverse. Julien Schaal

An Alsace winemaker in South Africa? Yes – and he makes a pair of excellent wines! Julien Schaal has made a name for himself in Alsace but his love of the Syrah grape and Chardonnay has led him to South Africa.

Julien Schaal Chardonnay 2012, Elgin

The Chardonnay grapes come from the Paul Cluver Vineyard.
No overt wood characters on the nose. Subtle citrus fruit and citrus blossom fragrances are apparent on the nose, with hints of vanilla pod and almond flakes. These characteristics follow through onto the palate, which is noticeably “pebbly‟. The fine, fresh acidity is natural, and adds poise and focus to the wine.

Grapes: Chardonnay     Alcohol: 14%

Syrah 2012 (Hemel-en-Aarde)

Rich and well-balanced, with grippy but fine tannins this wine possesses a perfume of mixed spice and plums. With a palate of soft blackberry flavours and vanilla this is true class.

Grapes: Syrah     Alcohol: 14%

GlenWood is a very special place. Located in the little-known valley of Robertsvlei, a few kilometres from Franschhoek, close to Cape Town, the farm is surrounded by aspects of outstanding natural beauty. DPBurger produces some of the finest wines in the Franschhoek region and he is sort after for his Chardonnays.

GlenWood Semillon Vigneron's Selection 2012

With very small production I am lucky to have secured some of his wonderfully expressive Semillon. This has developed into a well-integrated wine with enticing nutty and honey nougat flavours. A limited release, the wine will develop further, growing in complexity for years to come.

Grapes: 100% Semillon     Alcohol: 14%

GlenWood Merlot Shiraz 2012

An opulent, full-bodied wine with supple, vibrant fruit and tannins. Spicy, white pepper, smoky aromas pervade a ripe, fruit-driven profile. This will keep for a fair few years to come.

Grapes: 70% Merlot, 30% Shiraz     Alcohol: 14.5%

Corder Family Wines

Ian and Anette Corder bought their beautiful apple farm in 2003 and soon planted Sauvignon, Viognier and Shiraz all which have responded well to the various different micro-climates. The farm is situated on the Elgin Valley plateau which is a good 300 metres above sea level, a stone’s throw away from the sea with a cool climate which is ideal for the slow ripening of Sauvignon Blanc grapes.

So it was, in 2004, that the transformation began into what it is today. A spectacular, new world wine farm which utilizes the most modern viticulture practices and wine making techniques to make some of the Elgin Valley’s finest wines.

Corder Cool Climate Sauvignon 2013

Both refined and packed full of layered flavours this will not disappoint.
This is an excellent example of Elgin elegance and crisp acidity, well balanced with fruit, lemon and apples on the nose, tropical fruit and a lingering length.

Grapes: Sauvignon Blanc     Alcohol: 13.5%
